“Do you take insurance?”

Out of network

We often get questions about insurance.  We are what is referred to as “out of network” for all insurance companies. This just means we do not have a contract with any insurance companies. Vision therapy is a cutting edge, specialized field that insurance companies have not yet explored, we are hopeful that they will do so in the future.  For now, we have found rates that are both reasonable and also allow us to continue to provide the best vision therapy equipment, therapists, and doctors available. The best part is, that we are able to offer these services at a rate that is lower than the national vision therapy average!

Patient’s responsibilities

Payment for services is required at the time of service.  We offer a 10% discount for prepayment of 10 vision therapy sessions, which most people take advantage of.  It is then the patient’s choice as to whether or not they want to submit a claim to insurance.  Often the best first step is to call your insurance company to see if it is a covered service, and how their process works for submitting out-of-network claims.  It may be as simple as filling out a claim form on your insurance provider’s website.

What we can provide

We will do as much as we can to help you if you choose to submit a claim. Every time you make a payment with us, we can print an itemized receipt for you. This will also provide you with your date of service and any diagnostic codes and procedure codes that apply.  We can also provide a letter to the insurance company explaining the medical necessity of vision therapy.

The unfortunate reality is that most insurance companies do not pay for vision therapy.  It is seen as experimental (it is NOT, see our list of research) or educational.  We understand that this can make it difficult for many patients to have access to vision therapy.  For patients who need it, we also accept Care Credit as a means of financing vision therapy.

Feel free to tell your insurance company what services YOU feel should be covered! You are the consumer, so your voice matters.  If more people speak up, maybe eventually the status quo will change!
